The Mejlis (Parliament) of Turkmenistan is a legislature representative body
Today, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov has held a regular meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers via a digital system to review priority issues of state activity.
Chairwoman of the Mejlis D. Gulmanova was first to speak, who informed about the work ongoing to improve the national legal framework.
As was reported, currently the Working Groups, together with representatives of ministries and sectoral departments, are preparing draft laws “On Energy Saving and Efficient Energy Use”, “On Hydrometeorological Activities in Turkmenistan”, on amendments and addenda to the Family and Civil Procedure Codes, the Land Code and the Law of Turkmenistan “On Veterinary Business”. Work is also carried out to provide legislative support to international initiatives of the President of Turkmenistan.
The report included information on specific measures being taken to build up partnerships with reputable international organizations and parliaments of foreign countries. In this regard, the report highlighted a meeting with the OSCE Secretary General, during which issues of further development of inter-parliamentary relations and cooperation in law making were discussed. Along with this, Mejlis deputies took participation in a seminar organized by the OSCE Center in Ashgabat and the Regional Center for Asia of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations jointly with the relevant institutions of Turkmenistan, and in the 18th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
In addition, the report covered the participation of people’s representatives in events to explain to the general public the key aspects of the domestic and foreign policy of the independent Homeland, the goals of the adopted legal regulations, as well as to popularize the literary heritage of great Turkmen poet and thinker Magtymguly Pyragy.
Summing up the information presented, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov said that special attention must be paid to the preparation of new draft laws that fully meet the present-day requirements. The need to continue the work ongoing in this area was also emphasized.
